Maybe you’re just looking to know a little bit more about me:
Hi! I’m Stephanie Allen Crist. Writing is my business and my calling. I believe the written word has the power to inspire, persuade, inform, uplift, and entertain. A good piece of writing can do all of these things, depending on its purpose. I use my writing talents and craftsmanship in a variety of ways. My primary interests are autism, fantasy fiction, and marketing. My writing style tends to be familiar, with an assumption of intelligence, but I can and do vary my style to suit the publication. I’m a big-picture person who believes the details should serve the whole—and that whole tends to focus on what is just, compassionate, and respectful. I enjoy epic fantasy and gritty science fiction. I don’t go into all-out horror, but I do go dark sometimes. I advocate for disability rights, particularly but not exclusively through the Neurodiversity movement.
At the end of the day, when all labels and barriers are removed, I believe in people—I believe in their ability to do the right thing for the right reasons, in the capacity for goodness and justice to reign over wanton desires and the lust for money or power; I believe that human diversity and variety is a good thing for all of us, that equality means equal access and opportunity, that barriers to this equality can be deconstructed, that prejudice and stigma can be excised from the human psyche; I believe that all human beings are worthy of living, loving, working, playing, and dreaming, and that only their actions can deny them these human rights, not the state of their being; I believe that our children are our future, and I believe we have the responsibility to safeguard and build up our future by protecting and educating all of our children; I believe that society, culture and art should serve the people, not itself; and I believe in a God who expresses His existence in our fractured world through many faiths and many ways of being, and that we are all inheritors of His glorious promise if we choose to accept Him and each other.
I believe my writing gives me the power to share my beliefs and how I see the world with others, whether that’s through a nonfiction piece about parenting a child with special needs or whether that’s through a fantasy novel or a poem. Please take a moment to explore how my work may meet your needs. Thank you.
